Travel back to the 16th century to hear the stories of the soldiers who guarded the ancient Silesian-Hungarian border against smugglers and enemy raids.
Jablunkov ‘šance’ (from German schantze – a type of stone fortification) represents a typical example of the fortification of a mountain crossing area. It is a unique fortification monument that has no comparable analogue not only in the Czech Republic. Velká Šance in Mosty u Jablunkova formed the central point of this fortification system. Centuries ago, ‘šance’ prevented foreigners from entering Jablunkovský průsmyk (Jablunkov Pass) and further into the country – today they attract visitors.
