How about an adrenalin rush? Well then, let’s hurry over to Nový svět near Odry! The local slate mine from the late 19th and early 20th century, one of the only two slate mines open to the public in the Czech Rep., will allow you to experience complete silence and an all-engulfing darkness. You can climb up to the higher levels on slanted ladders through an 18-meter-tall ventilation flue or, if you aren’t felling that adventurous, you can take the less suspenseful path. With just a little bit of luck, you might spot a bat and leave with a souvenir in the shape of a heart you cut out of a piece of slate.
Geology lovers will be excited to see the Flaschar’s mine located in the slate fold of Odry, a truly unique phenomenon. It was created due to the tremendous pressure exerted by a layer of mud, which rolled up like a layer of dough before drying up and hardening into mudstone. The other folds are “mere” layers of slate.

How about visiting the other slate mine – Raab’s drift?
